Oil Portrait Paintings • Pencil Sketches • Whimsical Acrylic Art

Hello my name is Theresa Johnson and welcome to my online studio gallery. I have been painting and sketching portraits professionally since 1999. My art adventure started on a table top easel in the corner of a spare bedroom in my home. My portrait business has grown tremendously in the last decade. Now I work out of my spacious studio in North Portland at 7415 N Oatman Ave, Portland, OR 97217 on the top floor of the North Portland Growth Place.

Oil Portraits

My favorite medium is oil. Portraits painted in oil are luscious, luminous, and very life-like. I pride myself of my ability to capture an undeniable likeness of my subjects. Many of my clients have commented on how "alive" the portraits appear ...especially in the eyes that seem to have a special twinkle. With the type of realism that I strive to achieve in my paintings and sketches it is necessary that I be very detail oriented. If a shadow of a corner of a nose is slightly too wide, too narrow, too high or too low than the portrait can look like a completely different person all together. The exact position of facial features in relation to one another is what makes each human face unique.

Pencil Portraits

Creating pencil sketch portraits is a very satisfying process as well. It is a much quicker process but just as detailed. Pencil drawings can be completed in a short period of time thus making it a quick and cost effective option to owning a custom piece of fine art.
